European portal on Research Infrastructures’ Services

The European Portal on Research Infrastructures Database provides information on a large number of Research Infrastructures (RIs) of pan European interest in all fields of science. It covers facilities, resources and related services that are used by the scientific community to conduct top-level research in their respective fields.

This database is not exhaustive and intends to be a tool for the scientific community looking for services offered by these infrastructures. It resulted from a survey undertaken by the European Commission (EC) and the European Science Foundation (ESF) in a tentative to identify the current scenario of infrastructures in Europe.

You can now access to information of a number of major RIs belonging to the European Union and associated countries (with agreements under the EU RTD framework programmes). Nevertheless, this database also allows updates on the already existing data, as well as the addition of major RIs which have not been covered by the survey. New information sent to the database will go through a process of validation.

To be included in this database, RIs will have to:
I.provide resources, facilities and services essential to the scientific community;
II.have high construction and operation costs compared to research costs in their respective fields; open to external researchers and;
IV.have a clear European dimension and added value.

Examples of RIs: singular large-scale research installations, collections, libraries, databases, biological archives, high-capacity/high speed communications networks, research vessels, telescopes, satellite and aircraft observation facilities, networks of computing facilities,...
