The eI4Africa and iMENTORS partnerships are very pleased to welcome a new associated organisation to the eI4Africa/iMentors joint conference on the theme “e-Infrastructures for Africa: Gateways to the Future” that will take place on October 29, 2014, in Brussels, Belgium.

EUDAT is a project funded by the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development and it started in October 2011 with a duration of 36 months.

The CHAIN REDS initiative is proud to support the EU funded EUDAT project in developing a European collaborative data infrastructure for e-science as a layer in the overall European scientific e-infrastructure to complement the computing and networking layers.

In this perspective, a course on data services will be organized on April 2, 2014 from 9:00am to 12:30pm at the Megaron Athens International Conference Centre in Athens, Greece. This course, collocated with the 2nd International Conference on Research Infrastructures (ICRI 2014) will introduce the fundamentals of data infrastructures and describe EUDAT's data services. For each service, the course will explain what the service does, what the advantages of using such a service would be and how you can use the service. The course will then go on to discuss some topics - such as persistent identifiers - in more detail, and explain why they are important. The persistent identifiers will be presented in the context of the Greek PID service operated by CHAIN REDS project partner GRNET and made available to all world regions via the CHAIN REDS project - in the context of intercontinental Virtual Research Communities.

According to an article published on  iSGTW , iSGTW was at the EUDAT second conference in Rome, Italy. EUDAT, which is funded under the European Commission's FP7 scheme, seeks to support a collaborative data infrastructure which will allow researchers to share data within and between communities and enable them to carry out their research effectively. Now two years into the project, the EUDAT team is ready to provide solutions that will be affordable, trustworthy, robust, persistent, and easy to use. These solutions are B2SAFE to replicate research data safely, B2SHARE to store and share long-tail research data, B2FIND to find research data, and B2STAGE to get data to computation. These are also to be followed by new services, such as Dynamic Data and Semantic Annotation, which were discussed intensively during the conference.
