A paper presenting iMENTORS tool for analysis of contextual factors will be presented at the World Conference on Information Systems and Technologies (WorldCIST) under the "Intelligent and Decision Support Systems" section, on the 15th April 2014 at Madeira Island, Portugal and will be published by Springer in a book of Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing series.

The paper is titled "Quantitative scenario-based assessment of contextual factors for ICT4D projects: Design And Implementation in a web based tool", written by iMENTORS team members: Anton Talantsev, Aron Larsson, Florence Nameere Kivunike, David Sundgren.

According to a blog post on THE WORLD BANK DATA BLOG, William Shakespeare once wrote, “There are a thousand Hamlets in a thousand people’s eyes.”  Similarly, different people have different understandings of database services. Some people believe it is a type of personalized service, some believe it’s a value-added service, while others believe it’s a solutions-driven service. For us students, database services are vital to our research.
 

The dawn of the final launch of a new and comprehensive database on einfrastructures across Africa is steadily approaching. After a successful initial round of data extraction and recording, the iMENTORS team has now embarked on the validation of the information, in addition to further data collection regarding any infrastructures that are not yet recorded in the system.

iMENTORS is able to synchronize its data with other databases, fully utilizing Open Data and  Web 2.0 interconnectivity. Our development team has created API processes to include information from CORDIS and the World Bank database, in order to create the largest online repository of eInfrastructure data.

iMENTORS statistics have now been completed for all data recorded up until Dec. 15th!  During the last recording period, we added a total of 1398 new organizations and 413 new projects to our database, an increase over the last recording period of approximately 67% and 290%, respectively.  In addition, we recorded 330 research infrastructures - a brand new category of information now uploaded and available for search in the iMENTORS database.

A programmable use of the CHAIN-REDS Semantic Search Engine is now possible thanks to a simple RESTful API which has been developed on purpose by INFN. The API allows to get and reuse the millions of open access resources contained  in the CHAIN-REDS Knowledge Base and stored in a Virtuoso RDF-compliant database.

iMENTORS (also funded under FP7) has been busy recording the IST-Africa project and related FP7 projects. iMENTORS enables organizations to connect with each other, share resources and link their ICT4D project proposal to the past or on-going projects.

The European Portal on Research Infrastructures Database provides information on a large number of Research Infrastructures (RIs) of pan European interest in all fields of science. It covers facilities, resources and related services that are used by the scientific community to conduct top-level research in their respective fields.

This database is not exhaustive and intends to be a tool for the scientific community looking for services offered by these infrastructures. It resulted from a survey undertaken by the European Commission (EC) and the European Science Foundation (ESF) in a tentative to identify the current scenario of infrastructures in Europe.

We are in the final phase of building the online virtual observatory platform.

The alpha version has been online and operational with the final additions uploaded by April 2013. The beta version will be available to the public starting July 2013.

The iMENTORS project was presented at the Euro ICT Conference held in Lisbon on November 27^th to the 28^th. It was received well and we look forward to contact the people that were interested in submitting information about their projects.
