Capture: EC einfrastructures Head of Unit Kostas Glinos presents the iMENTORS project at the PAERIP conference

A high-level conference on “Promoting Africa-EU Research Infrastructure Partnerships” is taking place on 7-8 March 2013 at the Thon EU Hotel in Brussels, Belgium.  The conference presents the outcomes of the PAERIP (Promoting African European Research Infrastructures Partnerships) project, funded under the EU’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). 

Over the past two years PAERIP undertook an extensive analysis of Africa-EU research infrastructure partnerships, including best practices which could be identified from current cooperation and the formulation of recommendations to enhance collaboration.  In this context PAERIP considered cooperation activities such as how to enhance transnational access to research infrastructures for African and European researchers, and the promotion of networks integrating African and European research infrastructures.

We are in the final phase of building the online virtual observatory platform.

The alpha version has been online and operational with the final additions uploaded by April 2013. The beta version will be available to the public starting July 2013.

The iMENTORS project was presented at the Euro ICT Conference held in Lisbon on November 27^th to the 28^th. It was received well and we look forward to contact the people that were interested in submitting information about their projects.

Louis Papaemmanuel, Business Development- Brand & Product Manager of eGovlab and project director of iMENTORS, will present iMENTORS project in a session called Euro African Joint ICT Research Priorities (Day 4, Thursday November 29, 9.30am) at the 2012 Africa-EU Cooperation Forum on ICT, Lisbon November 28-29.

The "2012 Africa-EU Cooperation Forum on ICT" (an event designed to anyone with an interest in Euro-African collaborative project on ICT) will be held on November 28-29, 2012, at the Centro Cultural de Belém (CCB) in Lisbon, Portugal. The event is organised by the EuroAfrica-P8 EU/FP7 funded project in the framework of the EuroAfrica-ICT Initiative and with the support of the National Science Foundation (FCT) of Portugal. This major event is the fifth of a series of very successful conferences organised by the EuroAfrica-ICT Initiative under the aegis of the European and the African Union Commissions (EC & AUC): March 25-26, 2009 – Brussels, Belgium, February 4, 2010 – Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, December 7-8, 2010 – Helsinki, Finland, November 14-15, 2011 – Cape Town, South Africa.

The iMENTORS team has submitted a case for iMENTORS at epractice.eu. ePractice.eu is a portal created by the European Commission which offers a new service for the professional community of eGovernment, eInclusion and eHealth practitioners.

iMENTORS, launched in April 2012 by Stockholm University and Gov2u is the only e-infrastructure mapping project to date. It will cover all e-infrastructures in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) of the past five years. E-infrastructures are networked tools, data and resources that support a community of researchers, broadly including all those who participate in and benefit from research. It was introduced at the IST Africa conference, May 2012.

Hosted by the Government of Tanzania through the Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH), Supported by the European Commission and African Union Commission and Technical Co-Sponsored by IEEE, IST-Africa 2012 took place from 09 - 11 May 2012 in Dar es Salaam.
